Schizophrenia is a debilitating psychosis, a mental condition that affects about 1% of the US population (WebMD). There are 5 types of schizophrenia: catatonic, disorganized, paranoid, residual, and undifferentiated (schizlife). Catatonic Schizophrenia can be described as someone displaying extreme behavior. There can either be a heightened expression of activity; hyperactive or overly excited, or the individual can decrease activity so severely they become immobile and seem detached from their surroundings. There are medications that can control this type of schizophrenia. Disorganized Schizophrenia applies to those who display jumbled speech, irrational behavior, and lack an emotion response; these behaviors are not triggered by the use of substances such as drugs or alcohol. Paranoid Schizophrenia is the most common diagnosed type. The individuals who suffer from this form of schizophrenia are delusional, suspicious of anyone, fearful and become obsessed with tasks to keep the one’s they think will do harm to them at bay. It becomes an overwhelming task of â€Å"fight versus flight† in their daily lives. This is an incurable, long-term psychosis. There is medication and treatment for the impaired individual whom without such intervention may worsen, harm others, or themselves.
